Early AI adopters set to dominate European banking market - Visa study
What's happening
Visa's research and product moves signal a fast shift toward AI-native retail banking in Europe, with a Visa survey warning that banks that embed artificial intelligence into core operations today will significantly outperform laggards by 2030. Visa is also building products to enable that shift: it has unveiled an AI Financial Assistant for bank apps (pilots in the US starting in August) that provides conversational spending insights, card controls and plans for subscription management. Meanwhile Visa's Agentic Ready programme is expanding in Europe as Thredd, an AI-focused issuer-processing platform, joined the programme to let issuers process AI-initiated payments without replacing existing payments infrastructure, paving the way for agentic commerce where AI agents search, recommend and complete transactions under user permissions.
Why it's trending
Because Visa is pairing research that warns of an AI divide with concrete tooling (AI assistant and Agentic Ready integrations like Thredd) that lets European issuers adopt agentic and conversational payments now.
