Ant International Gets Brazil Licence for Local, Cross-Border Payments
What's happening
Ant International has been granted a Payment Institution (PI) licence by the Central Bank of Brazil. The licence is intended to strengthen Ant International's local and cross-border payment capabilities in Brazil and expand the company's abilities there. Ant already operates in Brazil through Antom, its merchant payment and digitalisation platform, which enables businesses to accept Pix, credit cards and other payment methods and provides embedded credit, treasury services, financial AI and blockchain solutions.
Why it's trending
Regulatory approval comes as Brazil's Pix and global instant-payment discussions (including the ECB and TIPS) increase focus on cross-border rails and local payment access.
