What's happening

Mastercard has launched tools to help merchants build and connect AI-powered shopping services, including a new Agent Connect service that links merchants, AI agents, digital platforms and payment providers through a single integration and lets businesses choose which AI services can access their products while keeping control over pricing, fulfillment and customer relationships. Mastercard, Visa and Ant International are collaborating on a Know-Your-Agent (KYA) interoperability framework to help card networks, digital wallets, agent platforms and marketplaces identify and onboard AI agents across networks. Executives note AI is already influencing shopping, Visa says AI shopping adoption has arrived even though agentic payments are not yet mainstream, and Mastercard forecasts more than one in ten online shoppers will routinely use AI agents by 2030.

Why it's trending

Because merchants, card networks and tech platforms are rolling out integrations and a KYA framework now so AI agents can move from product discovery to making purchases on consumers' behalf.
