Mastercard Shows How AI Agents Can Pay Multiple Providers With One Budget
What's happening
Mastercard demonstrated Agent Pay for Machines at Cloudflare Connect, showing AI agents can make multiple payments to different digital service providers from a single approved budget. The solution uses the x402 open protocol and emerged from pilots with Cloudflare, Ant International, AIsa, Base, BVNK, Coinbase and Hype. Mastercard has opened early access for developers to build and test the Agent Pay capability, and presents it as a way to let agents purchase digital services while keeping people and businesses in control through spending limits. The demos sit alongside other Mastercard AI initiatives, including the Mastercard Max assistant for card benefits discovery and partnerships with Extend to add spend management tools for issuers.
Why it's trending
This is rising because Mastercard just showcased Agent Pay for Machines at Cloudflare Connect, announced early access after pilots with major partners, and framed it as a way to control agent spending via the x402 protocol.
