Microsoft kills off unsuccessful AI features while merging its separate Copilot apps

Microsoft is consolidating its consumer Copilot and Microsoft 365 Copilot apps into a single unified Microsoft Copilot app, moving both personal and work accounts into the new interface and updating the app icon. As part of the simplification, Microsoft is dropping several AI features that failed to gain traction, including AI-generated podcasts, Group Chats, Deep Research, and the Mico character from Copilot's voice mode. Microsoft will relocate Mico, the emotive yellow blob, from Copilot voice to its Learn Live platform, where the company says the avatar will have "more to react to."
